Benefits of Galvannealed Steel

Carbon steel plays an integral role in the built environment, from gigantic machines to miniature devices. However, if left untreated, it may corrode, negatively impacting performance and aesthetics.

Galvannealed Steel from Alliance Steel provides all the benefits of carbon steel without corrosion or degradation. We’re a leading flat-rolled steel supplier and processor, capable of delivering this product under the conditions you require.

Our team takes pride in more than supplying galvanized sheets and coils at competitive prices. We can help you make informed decisions by discussing material grades in the marketplace and their characteristics.

How Is Galvannealed Steel Processed?

Galvannealed Steel is carbon steel coated with zinc using a hot-dipped process.

The steel then passes through a low-pressure, high-volume air knife that removes any excess coating before solidification. As a result, Galvannealed Steel has a thinner, more uniform zinc surface coating than Galvanized Steel, another popular coated carbon steel product. Next, the material enters a furnace for annealing.

Common characteristics of Galvannealed Steel Sheets and Coils include:

  • Competitively priced.

  • Strong corrosion resistance

  • Long life span

  • Resists Scratching

  • Excellent paint adhesion

  • MINIMAL PREPARATION IS NEEDED

  • Low maintenance is required

The Galvannealed Steel Advantage

Galvannealed Steel’s primary benefits are high strength, paintability, and corrosion resistance. With a spangle-free, gray-colored appearance, its ability to be formed, welded, and machined.

Galvannealed Steel sheets and coils are resistant to premature degradation due to the zinc surface layer as a shield between the base material and atmospheric conditions. Zinc coating is also highly resistant to scratches, a key attribute in demanding operating conditions.

Galvanized Steel stands out for its painting ability. Galvannealed Steel’s zinc layer is more absorbent than standard Galvanized steel, enabling paint to stick to the surface better. Furthermore, no special primers are required before painting. This cuts down on prep time and project costs when dealing with Galvannealed Steel.

Who May Benefit From Galvannealed Steel?

Galvannealed Steel is suitable for many applications. High electrical resistance, melting point, and hardness characteristics make it suitable for architectural applications, such as steel buildings, highways, and bridge construction. Doors and frames can also be manufactured from this steel product.

Industries seeking low maintenance and corrosion resistance can also benefit from Galvannealed Steel.

Examples include:

  • Pulp and Paper Mills

  • Automobile Components

  • Oil Refineries

  • Lights

  • Signs

  • Fencing

  • Guardrails

  • Marine Applications
