Aluminized Steel Explained
Aluminized steel is manufactured by mixing iron with aluminum. This process involves dipping a clean carbon steel workpiece into a vat of either pure molten aluminum or molten aluminum and silicon three times. This is done before drying by air.
This technique causes the carbon steel substrate and aluminum coating to form a tight metallurgical bond. The result is a finished product that exhibits the most effective characteristics of both materials.
The aluminum coating enables Aluminized Steel to withstand operating environments up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit. For comparison, galvanized steel can handle temperatures up to 392 degrees Fahrenheit.
