Hot Rolled Pickled & Oiled Steel Sheet & Coil

What is Hot Rolled Pickled & Oiled Steel?

Hot rolled pickled and oiled steel (HRPO) has been processed to remove surface impurities and descaled.

HRPO steel sheets and coils have improved workability and ductility, creates cost-saving opportunities associated with downstream processing like bending, forming, welding, laser cutting, and painting.

At Alliance Steel, our extensive inventory of HRPO steel sheets and coils has been descaled and oiled to extend longevity in corrosive environments. Request a quote today!

What is Pickling and Oiling?

Hot-rolled steel products will scale in contact with oxygen and water vapor after the rolling process.

Pickling is a metal surface cleaning process in which an acid bath (either sulfuric or hydrochloric) removes rust, stains, and unwanted contaminants that could interfere with subsequent fabrication processes like bending, forming, painting, and stamping.

After the pickling process, steel can oxidize after extended exposure to oxygen and atmospheric moisture. Finally, the oil film is applied to the steel to create a protective shield.

Applications for Hot Rolled Pickled & Oiled Steel Products

ASTM A1011 Hot Rolled Pickled Steel

ASTM 1011 is the standard specification for Sheet, Hot-Rolled, Carbon, Structural, High-Strength Low-Alloy, High-Strength Low-Alloy with improved formability, and ultra-high-strength. ASTM 1011 is ideal when some surface imperfections are not an issue. ASTM 1011 is ideal for forming and welding. Heat treatment can affect the properties of the steel.

Alliance Steel stocks ASTM A1011 Hot Rolled Pickled Steel in:

  • Commercial Steel (CS) & Drawing Steel (DS) Types A and B
  • Structural Steel (SS): Grades 30-55
  • HSLA (High Strength Low Alloys)
  • UHSS (Ultra-High-Strength Steel): Grades 40 - 100

ASTM A1018 Hot Rolled Pickled Steel

The A1018 specification is the standard specification for heavy gauge Hot-Rolled Sheet Carbon (CS), Structural (SS), High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLAS), High-Strength Low-Alloy with improved formability.

(HSLAS-F) and Ultra-High Strength (UHSS) steels in thicknesses over 0.230". ASTM A1018 is ideal when some surface imperfections are not an issue. ASTM 1018 is ideal for forming and welding. Heat treatment can affect the properties of the steel.

Alliance Steel stocks ASTM A1018 Hot Rolled Pickled Steel in:

  • Commercial Steel (CS) & Drawing Steel (DS) Types A and B
  • Structural Steel (SS): Grades 30-45
  • HSLA (High Strength Low Alloys)
  • UHSS (Ultra-High-Strength Steel): Grades 40-100

ASTM A36 Hot Rolled Pickled Steel

ASTM A36 Steel Plate is one of the most common grades of steel used in structural applications. The ASTM A36 standard covers low-carbon steels that are commonly used in construction, manufacturing and other industries. it is considerably soft for easy forming, machining, welding. Heat treatment has less effect on ASTM A36 steel material.

HRPO Steel Sheet & Coil Capabilities

Hot rolled pickled and oiled steel sheets and coils are often used as an alternative to cold rolled steel due to a decreased cost. HRPO is well suited for many applications while offering improved workability and availability.
