What is Steel Strapping?

Banding/Pallet strapping is the practice of using polyester or steel to palletize, unitize, or bundle products together.

  1. Strappings are applied manually or by a strapping machine; a strap or band is placed around the product and then pulled tight to secure the product.
  2. The strap/band is attached using a strapping sealer tool, which tightly crimps down around a seal.
  3. The excess material is removed and recycled.

What are the Advantages of Steel Strappings?

Steel Strappings are made from various steel alloys, giving them the highest breaking and highest tensile strength. There are also ideal for situations where the material has sharp edges or hard corners—for example, flat roll steel and steel coils.

Benefits for Steel Strappings:

  • High Break Strength
  • Won’t decompose in hot temperatures/UV rays
  • Extreme durability
  • Loads with sharp edges or corners could cut a softer restraint

What materials are steel strappings made from?

Steel Strappings come in various grades, widths, gauges, and finishes. With mill partnerships around the country, Alliance Steel will work to find the material you need.

Most commonly used:

  • Hot Rolled
  • Cold Rolled – full hard.
  • Stainless Steel (200-300 series)
  • Galvanized
  • Painted

What is a High Tensile Steel Strapping?

A high tensile steel strapping is cold-rolled steel with a high carbon and manganese content. This material is heat-treated to ensure uniform tensile and elongation. Elongation measures how much bending and shaping material can handle before breaking.

Alliance Steel is prepared to support your steel needs with an extensive inventory of flat-rolled sheet and coil products. In addition, we maintain a selection of hot rolled steel, hot rolled pickled and oiled, hot rolled pickled dry, cold-rolled steel, all coated products, and stainless steel products.
